BLOG: AHPsDay 14th Oct 2021 – what will you be doing?

Read our latest blog post below about an inspired programme of local events to promote awareness of the impact of AHP roles.

AHPs’ Day is an annual opportunity for AHPs to come together and celebrate being part of the AHP family.

Year-on-year the scale of activity and energy continues to grow with art therapists, drama therapists, music therapists, chiropodists and podiatrists, dietitians, occupational therapists, operating department practitioners, orthoptists, osteopaths, paramedics, physiotherapists, prosthetics and orthotists, diagnostic and therapeutic radiographers, and speech and language therapists all celebrating their professions and showcasing the impact they make to people’s lives.

In the spirit of AHPs’ Day, this month ReSNetSLT is showcasing and sharing the events that Bolton NHS Foundation Trust have arranged for their local AHP workforce.

The Assistant Director of AHPs, Rachel Hemingway, has planned a mix of local and national events, webinars and presentations for the 14th October which local AHP staff can engage with.

Rachel has a keen interest in quality improvement, innovation and research and when she started in the AHP leadership role in March 2020 one of her core aims was to enable Bolton AHPs to lead on new ways of working.

The national ambition for AHPs’ Day this year is to celebrate, appreciate, inspire and connect, ensuring that the contribution AHPs make is widely recognised.

This year Rachel has focused on building the research capability and capacity of AHPS which prompted the idea of showcasing newly qualified pre-registration research dissertations in order to recognise research skills and maximise learning from the best of these.

As a result, we hope to engage teams in using evidence and research and increase the confidence of our newly qualified staff to consider early-career research opportunities.

The day is full of a wide range of both local and national events and presentations, from the Livestream talk by Chief AHP Officer Suzanne Rastrick, to service improvement poster celebrations, and showcasing exciting profession-specific developments such as the speech and language therapy new fibreoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing service.

Later in the day the new and innovative Band 5 project awards take place, where newly qualified staff will showcase their pre-registration dissertations to be judged by Bolton’s Chief Nurse.

The day rounds off with Bolton’s “Bakeoff Banquet!, followed by a rather timely regional AHP Park Run on the Saturday!
